Scientific workshop: "Preserving and developing local intellectual properties in the Central Highlands in the context of international integration: Opportunities, challenges and some solutions"

In the afternoon of April 19th, 2019, in the city of Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak province, the Institution for European Studiesin collaboration with the Institute of Social Sciences in the Central Highlands held a scientific workshop on "Conservation and Development of Assets Local intellectuals in the Central Highlands in the context of international integration: Opportunities, challenges and some solutions ”.

Attending the workshop was Dr. Nguyen Duy Thuy - Member of the Party Central Committee's Council, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands; Dr. Vu Tuan Hung - Deputy Director of the Institute of Regional Sustainable Development, Chairman of the project TN17 / X04; Assoc. Dang Minh Duc - Deputy Director of the European Research Institute and representatives of the departments of the 5 Central Highlands provinces; scientists from research institutes, academies, universities and colleges throughout the country, together with independent research experts; representatives of industry associations and private enterprises in the Central Highlands provinces.

Opening remarks, Dr. Nguyen Duy Thuy - Member of the Party Central Committee's Council, Director of the Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Ma Ha - Chairman of Vietnam Intellectual Property Association said that the workshop is in the activities of the topic "Conservation and development of intellectual property in the Central Highlands in the context of new international integration" , Code: TN17 / X04; belongs to the Central Highlands Program 2016-2020. Accordingly, this scientific conference is a forum for participants to discuss and evaluate the advantages, challenges and practices of intellectual property development and development in the Central Highlands. At the same time, propose solutions to preserve and develop intellectual property in the Central Highlands in the context of new international integration.

In the speech at the seminar, the project manager - PhD. Vu Tuan Hung affirmed that the Central Highlands is an area with particular advantages for the development of local intellectual property in international economic development and integration. Many studies have proved that the Central Highlands is a land characterized by cultural characteristics, ethnicity, ecosystems, natural resources, people, geopolitical and economic positions, and many potentials. exploitation and conservation, including many intellectual property closely associated with the locality. At the same time, the project leader also pointed out the gap of the research on conservation theory and practice and the development of new issues that need to be studied in both theoretical and practical aspects.

The workshop is divided into 2 sessions, with the papers related to issues such as: Exploiting effectively geographical indications "Buon Ma Thuot Coffee" creating different advantages in tourism development in Dak Lak; Assessing the potential and propose solutions to exploit local intellectual properties in some typical products in Gia Lai; The status and solutions of intellectual property protection and development in Kon Tum province in association with the industrial revolution 4.0 and international integration; Raising awareness for individuals and organizations about intellectual property rights in Dak Lak province; The role of intellectual property for entrepreneurs in the Central Highlands.

With intensive exchanges, the seminar discussed many issues on the practice of intellectual property preservation and development in the Central Highlands, difficulties in registering and protecting Intellectual Property rights for specific products of the Western regions. Approaching from many different perspectives, the participants gave many suggestions for solutions to improve the effectiveness of intellectual property conservation and development in the Central Highlands.

Summarizing the workshop, Assoc. Dang Minh Duc - Deputy Director of the Institute of European Studies, Vice Chairman of the project highly appreciated the results achieved after the lively and highly specialized discussion between experts and delegates. Therefore, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Minh Duc once again affirmed the role of intellectual property conservation and development for the development of the Central Highlands in the context of international integration today. The results of the scientific seminar have provided a lively database, important views and ideas for the Management Board and the participants in the project to develop a summary report on the following topics./.
